THERAPY SERVICES
Massage Therapy
We service luxurious massages for singles and couples either in our relaxing massage studio, located in Sewanee, Tennessee, or we can come to your home, office, or venue throughout southeast and middle Tennessee. You may visit our affiliate massage service Mountain Mobile Events for more information on couples or group massages.
Our Primary Objective: Calm the nervous system.
During the recovery process, it is imperative that our client's nervous system is relaxed in order to allow overactive tissues to relax. Clients will enjoy a unique studio designed to provide a calming atmosphere. The studio has surround sound stereo and the client's choice of soothing nature sounds or music (no cheap sound machine).
Rapport building and a thorough check-in: to establish client needs and trust. A static and/or active postural assessment (corrective therapy) may also used to further identify any sub-optimal movement quality and areas of concern from the client.
Working slowly in layers: to help clients experience a release of tension that naturally calms the body and begins the healing process.
Communication: Before and throughout each session to make sure clients are fully comfortable with how I touch, where I touch, and the pressure I apply. I ensure clients understand they should not feel any pain, and to let me know if they need any changes.
Thorough checkout: to make sure clients’ needs have been met. Corrective and preventive strategies are also assigned to further assist in the healing process.
Corrective Therapy: An extension to massage therapy
5 steps to Corrective Therapy
Identify: postural distortions and movement impairments
Inhibit: overactive/tight tissues
Lengthen: overactive/tight muscles
Activate: underactive muscles (with fine movements)
Integrate: the underactive muscles (with gross movements)
Educate: the client with self-care protocol
THE WAY WE MAKE IT ALL WORK
Corrective Therapy through the Corrective Therapy Continuum (CTC)
The CTC optimizes the quality of movement to enhance performance, fitness results, injury resistance, movement efficiency, and recovery through a multi-step process:
1. Static and dynamic postural assessments: to determine possible postural distortions and movement impairments.
2. Manual therapy.
3. Calm the nervous system: By calming the nervous system, local areas of tension and overactive tissues (identified through the postural assessments) can then be inhibited.
4. Lengthen: Specific tissues are lengthened through unique active and passive stretches.
5. Activate: Inactive tissues are activated through simple movements performed by the client.
6. Educate: The session concludes with a personal program that teaches the previously inactive and overactive muscles how to work properly with the rest of the body again.
